Apple M1 MacBook Pro initial thoughts | Day #96

Lucky me, just around an hour ago, I received my new 13-inch MacBook Pro M1. Like a kid, I immediately unpacked it, and here are my initial thoughts about it.

(I had some trouble setting it up due to migration assistant, but I stopped it cause I want to start my MBP with a clean slate.)

For context, my previous MBP was the 15-inch 2018 model. This had a 2,6GHz 6-core Intel Core i7, 16GB 2400 MHz DDR4 Memory, and Radeon Pro 560X 4GB graphics.

Well to start with my new M1 MBP.

It is fast. Blazingly fast. I haven’t build any software projects yet but the basics as installing apps and opening them are fast. There is almost no wait time compared to my previous model and feels like an iOS device.

I haven’t noticed any errors yet even from Rosetta 2 migrated apps.

The only downside I think is, is that there no option for batch downloads like Ninete for windows. Maybe the migration assistant would have resolved this problem, but people that may want to start with a clean slate have a bigger hassle.

I like the new keyboard layout as well. Especially the separate touchID and escape button. I know this may not be new for some, but for me it is.

I noticed that when I was downloading, unpacking, installing, and opening multiple apps that the MBP didn’t make any sound at all. I was even trying to listen very closely and it didn’t make a single sound.

This is incredible.

All in all, for my initial thoughts I’m very happy with my MBP 13-inch, but will write a more in-depth review of this device similar to the previous one.

Stay tuned.

I’ve also delayed Growrilla official launch due to a bug.
